How I Work

Painting is, for me, a selfish act with a meaning that cannot be described in words.

My artworks are not objects but subjects. Therefore, they require being seen. If my works also bring joy to others, I am grateful.

Learning/testing something new for each piece is important.

Mixing photography, pastels, and sometimes other media is a unique technique that I am quite alone in.

All art materials, as well as frames, must be of the highest quality.

Hand Colorized Photographies

Almost 15 years ago, I started experimenting with hand colorizing photographies with pastels. Nowadays, I also often complement them with watercolor and/or acrylic as well as ink.

I mostly photograph landscapes/nature images and floral motifs that I have printed using 12-color inkjet printing on Hanemuhle Fine Art Inkjet Paper or Studio Enhanced.

Pastel is my favorite medium

Working primarily with pastels, I combine various types of dry pastels with oil pastels. I often paint on Hanemuhle Fine Art Ink Jet paper to achieve additional shine.

Since 2024, I have increasingly incorporated different techniques, blending pastels, watercolors, ink, and acrylics depending on the desired effect.

By the winter of 2025, I have nearly abandoned watercolor paper, focusing predominantly on Mixed Media on canvas.

Art quality posters

Art quality posters are reproductions of my original paintings. Signed and in limited editions.

I create the reproductions myself by photographing the original artwork with an advanced system camera using specific camera settings and lighting techniques.

The posters are printed using a 12-color ink printing process on Hanemuehle's Studio Enhanced 210 g photo paper. This paper is acid-free and matte. Being acid-free means that the prints will last significantly longer than traditional posters, which are usually printed using only 4 colors.

Of course, I personally sign all posters before they are sent to the customer.

You can't achieve better print and paper quality than this!

Framing

Framing a painting is an enjoyable part of the creative process. There are so many styles to choose from. An old-fashioned frame can make the painting take a journey through time. Such framing also complements a modern interior design very nicely.

All framings are done by professional craftsmen acid-free, and virtually all frames come with low-reflective glass that protects against UV light. If the framing is not acid-free, color molecules will soon migrate out through the back of the paper. Please note that this is a simplified description.
